Snowshoe outing in Prat d’Aguiló

 

This is a two-day snowshoe trip in one of the most beautiful places of the Pyrenees, in the area of Prat d’Aguiló (‘Aguiló Meadow’), in the region of Cerdanya. We will go to the mountain refuge of Prat d’Aguiló, at 2,020 metres. There we will have dinner and overnight, recovering energy to ascend the summit of Comabona (2,548 metres) the following day. We will reach the top after passing the pass of Gasolans, where we will make a short stop on our way to rest a little. Besides, we will take advantage of this little break to learn why this pass receives this! During this trip we will also learn some oddities of the flora and fauna of the natural area that surround us. Finally, and after reaching the top, we will come back to the refuge to rest for a while and afterwards descend to the car park, where we had left our vehicles.

Itinerary: Car park – refuge Prat d’Aguiló – Comabona – refuge of the Prat d’Aguiló – car park

Saturday: Ascent to the refuge Prat d’Aguiló

 

Sunday: Ascent to the Comabona through of Tancalaporta or Gasolans pass. Return to the refuge and descent to the place where our vehicles were parked.

Slope: 528 metres. From the refuge Prat d’Aguiló we have about 528 metres of accumulated difference until the summit of Comabona. We will always take the easiest way, making the softer and more comfortable inclinations at all times.

Difficulty: Moderate.

​

Equipment required: Sunglasses (minimum protection factor: 3 o 4), waterproof hiking boots, two or three pairs of thick socks, thermal pants and T-shirt (first layer), warm pants (second layer), waterproof jacket and pants (third layer), waterproof gloves, another pair of warm gloves and spare ones. Headlamp, a change of clothes and a mountain backpack of about 30 litres.  A sleeping bag is also required.

Food and drink that need to be brought: Water (at least a canteen of 1 litre) and, to eat, food-bars, one or two sandwiches minimum and some piece of fruit.
